can a diesel engine oil be applied on motorcycle gasoline engines?

i change the oil of my motorcycle, i put valvoline 15w/40 diesel oil on it, then i read the label that its for diesel engine.. i want to know if it can affect the engine performance of my motorcycle.

I don't see why not. I use Shell 15w40 Rotella, a diesel oil, in all my bikes, including those with wet clutches. Diesel oils have a lot of zinc additives, a good thing for motorcycle engines. There is absolutely no reason to shy away from automotive
