HVAC HEAT PUMP THERMOSTAT question - 4 degree differential before heat strips kick in instead of 2 degrees?

This is out first winter in our recently purchased home.

I have a typical heat pump with back up resistance heat strips.

There's a bad defrost relay or bad sequencer in the electrical heating which is not bringing on all the stages of heat. Or, the condenser is dirty and not allowing the coils to absorb heat. You'll need to call for service since the unit is overheating
