Cant get hits for my site?

How do i get hits for free? i have tried EVERYTHING!! articles, search engines, classifields, ezines, link exchanges, free ads, viral marketing and everything! but i might get 1 hit every couple of days at best! and my site isnt terrible. whats the problem.
