i have a ford f 150 i changed the alternator and did not notice the power cord was touching the bracket changed the alternator now when i jump my truck it starts but as soon as i take off the jumper cables my truck dies
I put a new one onn

you blew a fusible link or fuse you didnt give a year but early fords are near the starter solenoid later models are on the fire wall pass side they are special style flat with 2 holes THEY ARE ON THE FIRE WALL SHOULD BE TWO OF THEM
